The topic is the "pattern interrupt" a concept taken from NLP, (Neurolinguistic Programming), which can be used to stop or interrupt a conversation that is not going well.
It resembles the use of "surprise" to halt conversations or derail upset ranting or hostility that I've outlined in Defusing Hostile Customers Workbook.
